Spiky seed pods of Glycyrrhiza yunnanensis, early October. A relative of liquorice, Glycyrrhiza glabra, but it only grows in the mountains (~2700m) of Yunnan and Sichuan, in forest clearings, the edges of woodlands, and open grassy slopes. It was first discovered in 1935 in Lijiang by C.W. Wang, and was described correctly for the first time in 1984 by S. H. Cheng & L. K. Dai. It is a medium-sized perennial herb with very long leaves with numerous leaflets.
