080908_057_Pear Louise Bonne Jersey.jpg
Pear 'Louise Bonne of Jersey', early September. Also known as 'Louise Bonne d'Avranches'. A French pear "raised about 1780 by M. Longueval at Avranches, Normandy. The English name arose as an error, presumably because it arrived via the Channel Islands. It is an attractive, reliable and good quality pear, heavy cropping (often requiring thinning) and a good garden cultivar. It is moderately vigorous, growing well in all forms." ('Pears' by Jim Arbury and Sally Pinhey)
