Papaver somniferum 'Lauren's Grape'_015.jpg
Papaver somniferum 'Lauren's Grape', early June. "This is the most vivid and extraordinary opium poppy, with single, deep plum-purple flowers, crumpled like tissue paper. These unfurl from drooping, plump grey-blue buds held on arching stems, developing into broad cups of the richest and most intense colour. The base of each petal is enhanced with black, and held around a prominent grey-green knob decorated by a prolific ring of pale cream anthers." [Fergus Garrett]
